Do What They Say – Not What They Do
In Matthew 21, 22 & 23, Jesus makes a direct challenge to the Jewish leaders and teachers. He begins by clearing the Temple of the moneychangers, tells them parables that are meant to convict them, and lastly pronounces seven “woes” upon them that will be brought down on them at judgment. But in the middle of all this (Matthew 23: 1-12), He addresses His disciples and the rest of the crowd to tell them,
“Do what the teachers of the law say (when reading from Scripture) but do not do what they do.”
We will study these verses to see how this teaching of Jesus should be carried out – even today.
